Re: "Canada's cosmetic regulations need a makeover," (The Hill Times, by Rick Smith, May 30, p. 26). The Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association fully agrees that a review of the Food and Drugs Act and its regulations, including those governing cosmetics, is long overdue. Governments should periodically review consumer product safety legislation to ensure that it is current, effective and efficient in ensuring safe products for Canadians. As the Food and Drugs Act has not been updated in several decades, it is time to do so and we welcome the consultation and work that Health Canada has already undertaken.
