I was encouraged to hear about the Prime Minister's new plan for caucus advisory committees for his Ministers ("Tory committees will help ministers avoid missteps," The Hill Times, Aug. 23). It's a great idea. After decades on Parliament Hill working for Parliamentarians and ministers, I strongly believe that backbench MPs should be more than a farm team for any future Cabinet vacancy. They are an undervalued talent pool which can be utilized in a more meaningful manner today.
