Re: "Senate does important work, says Progressive Canadian Party," (Letters to the Editor, The Hill Times, Nov. 12, p. 8). I would like to contend Brian Marlatt's argument in favour of the Senate. In practice, the Senate has just frustrated every important piece of legislation Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government has set out to do. Moreover, these thwarting of legitimate will of ordinary Canadians were highlighted, as the House has passed them. I'm referring mostly to the crime legislation but also to the Senate's term limits. I believe Senators should have used fiduciary duty and let the measure pass, as it deals with the Senate itself.
