A recent editorial in the Montreal Gazette is titled, "Making MPs somebodies," and contains four important recommendations. The first, which suggests relaxing caucus discipline and easing the whips, would have little practical effect on government party members. Most will reluctantly admit that they sit in Ottawa thanks to he Prime Minister and the party program. I was labelled a maverick, but maintained the best voting record, because I know that I was not elected for my good looks.
