Why can I no longer read The Hill Times online?
The Hill Times' staff put a lot of work into laying out the newspaper in a orderly and pleasing fashion.
The PDF document, which is available for download each week, is a perfect copy of what our newspaper is like.
So now when you are unable to receive your HT, the electronic version will more accurately represent the paper you are use to seeing.
Can I have the pdf file sent to me by e-mail?
Yes but beware, some of the PDFs can be as large as 3MB. It is not every e-mail account that can receive large files and you may not want to wait for these files to download when you check for new mail.
This being said, there is a setting that you can set if you are a subscriber: Members ServicesWhen I click on the 'download' button, the edition opens in my browser, how do I download the file?
Some browsers are configured with a plugin (or helper application) which allows the PDF file to be viewed from inside the browser. If you want to make sure that the PDF file is downloaded to your computer, right click (control / click on a macintosh) on the link and choose "save target" or "download link". You will then be asked for the save destination.
Downloading the PDF file takes a long time, is there any way to speed things up?
Not really. If you are using a dial up connection to the internet and are trying to download one of our bigger issues (3+ MB) then there isn't much you can do to speed things up. Our PDF files are optimised for screen use but the larger the paper, the larger the file.
Can I use PDF files with my computer?
Yes! Thanks to Adobe's great work, PDF files are available for practically every computer platform. You can download the Reader here: Download Acrobat ReaderCan I download an edition that is older than two weeks?
No. You have two weeks to pick up your PDF copy of The Hill Times after which you will have to consult the archives for HTML back issues.
Do I need to download the Policy Briefings separately?
No. The Policy Briefings are available for free as stand-alone PDF documents but they are included whithin the regular Hill Times PDF.
What is a PDF file?
The PDF file (Portable Document Format) is a file format created by Adobe in order to allow different computers, with different settings, to view the same documents without any formating errors.
In other words, what you see on your computer screen should be the same as what I see on my computer screen; and what your neighbour sees, and your friends and your boss etc.
The best way to view a PDF document is to download Acrobat Reader. It's free and it will work on any computer. If you don't have a copy of Acrobat Reader you can pick one up here: download Acrobat Readerwebmaster@hilltimes.com : e-mail us if you have any other questions.
