What insights would you pass on from U.S. Republican, Democratic conventions?

The White House, in Washington, D.C.

Conservative pundit Tim Powers said this week in The Hill Times that “There is no greater show on earth than an American political convention…they’re effectively large laboratories that are on full display.” Very, highly interesting. The Republicans just completed their convention in Tampa, Fl., and the Democrats are holding theirs this week in Charlotte, N.C.

Conservative MP Gord Brown (Leeds-Grenville, Ont.), co-chair of the Canada-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary group, attended the Republican Party's convention and will attend the Democratic Party's convention as part of a “diplomatic group.” He told The Hill Times that he’s working closely with the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the consulate in Miami to pass along anything “that we see of interest” to the government.

This week’s challenge: Overheard at the convention. What kind of interesting tidbits would you pass along from a U.S. Republican or Democratic convention?

For example: ‘Don’t tell the Republicans, but we really want that Keystone XL pipeline,’ says Obama.
