
Before Ottawa Muslim Women’s Organization founder Nazira Naz Tareen immigrated to Canada decades ago, she stood and told the crowd at the Famous Five luncheon event last week at the National Arts Centre rooftop, she witnessed the election of a female prime minister in India—Indira Gandhi. Although Kim Campbell was prime minister of Canada for a short time, Ms. Tareen, who sits on the board of the Shirley E. Greenberg Women’s Health Centre, asked, “When will we see one get elected in Canada? I’m 72, I’d like to see one before I die.”
