Stronach, the reluctant trail-blazer

Calgary Herald national political columnist Don Martin launched his book Belinda: The Political and Private Life of Belinda Stronach, last week at Hy's Martini Ranch, a popular Ottawa political hangout. The book coincidentally hit the bookstores at about the same time as unsubstantiated and sensational allegations were made by NHL player Tie Domi's ex-wife Leanne in documents that Ms. Stronach was having an affair with Mr. Domi. The allegations were first reported in two national newspaper gossip columns. After that, there was an explosion of stories. Ms. Stronach did not initially respond, but later issued a statement, suggesting the allegations made about her were inaccurate and irresponsible. Ms. Stronach said any problems between Tie and Leanne Domi were not related to her and said she would not be making any further statements on this issue. "Only they can speak to their own issues."
