Canadians can learn from Mongolia's democratic experiment

Mongolians are now questioning their constitution: why growing gap between rich and poor, rural and urban?

The Secretary General of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia has a picture of Genghis Khan on his office wall. I had not previously associated the great Khan with Parliamentary democracy, and so I asked him why? Mr. Batbaatar explained that after unifying the Mongol tribes, Genghis Khan began the practice of bringing all noblemen together for consultation on important state decisions in a Great Hural or assembly. The modern Parliament of Mongolia traces its roots to this 13th century practice.

The Secretary General of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia has a picture of Genghis Khan on his office wall. I had not previously associated the great Khan with Parliamentary democracy, and so I asked him why?
