IMF warns Canada to rebalance, diversify economy

The Trudeau government is putting much stock in Canada’s pursuit of free trade agreements and expanded efforts to diversify trade by building new markets. But without competitive industries these trade pacts don’t mean much.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau’s budgets, and indeed the overall messaging from the Trudeau government, are all about strengthening the middle class, the big promise at the core of the Liberal election campaign in 2015.
