Bill C-16 and the future of trans kids

Transgender children and youth, especially racialized and impoverished transgender children and youth, are among the most vulnerable people living in Canada today. At this moment of rising anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, racism, sexism, and transphobia, the Senate has an opportunity to offer not just my kid, but all kids in Canada, a chance to expand their understanding of and appreciation for the diversity of human experience. As Florence herself says, passing this bill is 'just being respectful.'

We want the Senate to pass Bill C-16 as an expression of its commitment to protect one of the most vulnerable populations in Canada: transgender Canadians, particularly children and young people, writes Kimberley Manning. The Hill Times photograph by Jake Wright
