What it’s really like ‘down inside’ Canada’s prisons

In his book, Down Inside: Thirty Years in Canada's Prison Service, former deputy warden Robert Clark says after spending 30 years working in some of Canada's most notorious prisons, humane treatment and rehabilitation is better than the tough-on-crime approach with prisoners. Robert Clark said, 'the only way to improve Canada’s prison system is through the application of greater judicial and civilian oversight.' Photograph courtesy of Robert Clark
