Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016

Governor General David Johnston presented bravery medals to several people involved in the Oct. 22 shooting on Parliament Hill. “On Oct. 22, 2014, members of the House of Commons protection services and the RCMP were instrumental in stopping an armed who had stormed the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Ont. Constable Samearn Son (pictured left) was stationed at the front entrance when he spotted the man entering with a concealed rifle. The constable lunged to gain control of the firearm but it discharged and struck him in the leg,” the GG’s office wrote in a photo caption after Mr. Son received his medal on Monday.
