The Christmas season should be a reminder that the social harmony and diversity we enjoy in Canada is both an historic anomaly and an elusive aspiration in much of the world today.
Preoccupation with planes, target dates and quotas is misplaced. As we prepare to welcome Syrian and Iraqi refugees to Canada with open arms, a coordinated and thoughtful process will allow for increased attention to humanitarian concerns.
We must remember that Iran’s isolation from the international community is not just the product of its illicit nuclear program. It is also a direct result of the country’s abuse of human rights at home and sponsorship of terrorism abroad.
