There are high expectations for David Johnston. But perhaps we are expecting too much from the man and from the Office of the Governor General. Canadians need to demand more from all of our public representatives, especially from our elected ones.
More than $1-billion was spent on the G8 and G20 meetings. Canada's largest city was turned into a ghost town. Marauding thugs destroyed parts of the commercial sector of Toronto. Was it all worth it? Nope.
There are worrying signs that either the government doesn't understand the fundamentals of Canada's constitutional democracy or are trying to rewrite them in order to design a form of American presidential republican democracy.
