OTTAWA—With the House and Senate adjourned for the summer recess, it might be a good time to do a bit of crystal ball gazing and speculate about the next 16 months, or so. Based on a combination of the Parliament of Canada Act and the fixed election date legislation, the 42nd general election should take place somewhere between late October of 2015 and May of 2016. However, the government is still free to dissolve Parliament at will.
