Conservative MP Hiebert convinced PM did not want Senate to kill his union transparency private member’s bill

Backbench Conservative MP Russ Hiebert says he’s convinced that Prime Minister Stephen Harper did not want his union-transparency private member’s bill to be effectively killed in the Senate on Wednesday when 17 Conservative Senators either supported amendments eviscerating the legislation, abstained from voting, or simply did not vote when it was savaged by Liberal and Tory Senators.

Conservative MP Russ Hiebert’s private member’s bill C-377 was amended and sent back to the House on Wednesday, but 16 Conservative Senators supported Conservative Sen. Hugh Segal’s amendments. The Hill Times photograph by Jake Wright
